About the event

Join us for a Book Talk on "White Wood Furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties" by Jiang Qigu. This book fills a significant gap in the study of traditional Chinese furniture, as it focuses on the ancient and widely popular white wood furniture that has been largely neglected in previous research monographs.

Jiang Qigu conducted a detailed investigation and scrutiny of the numerous terms and tree species of white wood recorded in ancient Chinese literature. He combined this with a careful analysis of various traditional white wood furniture collections to interpret the history of Chinese conventional white wood furniture from a new perspective and explore the beauty and cultural significance of white wood furniture.

Jiang Qigu is an ink painter, painting, and art history professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and director of the Research House for Asian Art. He has written numerous articles on art history and criticism and has translated "The Domain of Images" and other works.

Don't miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the history and cultural significance of traditional Chinese furniture through the lens of white wood furniture. Join us for a fascinating Book Talk with Jiang Qigu.
