Artist Introduction
Natia Ser (b. Hong Kong) is an artist based in Chicago who works with artists’ books and photo installations. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography (with Distinction) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was awarded the Presidential Merit Scholarship. She has been accepted to Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture’s Residency Program 2024 and the LeRoy Neiman Fellowship at the Oxbow School of Art and Artists’ Residency. Her work has been exhibited in Hong Kong, Chicago, New York and Japan. She was the translator for Photography. My Passion. My Life.
Yue Xu is a multimedia artist making sculptures, inflatables, drawings, and artist’s books. Her work focuses on the serendipitous and absurd surprises that occur in overlooked moments of the habitual surroundings of daily life. Her works are spatial analogies made from metaphors of non-continuous space, like fragments of memory. Her materials are often modular and mobile. The works are intended to be disassembled, reassembled, and easily moved around; temporary spaces transform these materials from a relatively unstable to stable status. She also manipulates industrial and found objects in order to draw attention to the forces—invisible or taken for granted—that structure our everyday lives. This transitory act of constructing temporary stability parallels the experience of moving and living across different borders.
